Deep in the Forest: Wrap Party Bonus Content #2

The Making of:

"Deep in the Forest" was conceptualized based on the tradition of J-pop idols groups having stage plays. BETA is an international trainee unit, so members are spread throughout the world. Juju Neto was from England, Nanami is from Argentina and Rika, Ami and Hikari are from the United States.

The answer to the spread out nature of BETA was an audio drama. Each episode is 8-9+ minutes long and most premiered in October with the final one premiering in November.

The plot is essentially four girls go into the woods because their close friend Juju claims she saw a hairless cat-like creature in the woods which she swears is not a cat at all but something else entirely. Rika is far more than skeptical of this and simply plays along, expecting the situation to lend to a more reasonable explanation. Meanwhile, Ami supports Juju's quest, even if it does not seem to be in the realm of possibility. Hikari is simply curious and joins them wanting to know any answer.  Nanami first episode is the 2nd episode, and a listener can quickly piece together how she fits into the mystery.

The drama was originally part of a song a song with the same name, but it was decided to do the drama alone in celebration of both fall and Halloween.

The inspiration for the drama was purely based on the lyrics of the song but with a more lighthearted ending. I wanted to keep the drama as family-friendly as possible. In writing an audio drama, what the character says carries the most weight rather than what is seen. I narrate when necessary and let the girls' witty retorts do the rest. Since there was only a table reading for the 1st episode, I had no idea how the members would read their lines, so editing was an absolute pleasure. Over each episode, each member became more comfortable in their role. An interesting piece of trivia is that four out of the five members each have a final line.

Ami: Episode 1

Rika: Episode 2

Hikari: Episode 3

Nanami: Episode 4

Because of the early departure of Juju from BETA, she was not given a final line. Her character is mentioned in all four episodes despite her only having spoken lines in two out of the four episodes.

Writing has been a passion for me for most of my life, but this was the first time I wrote an audio drama. It was both hard but gratifying!

I hope you will listen to the drama and share it with your friends!

Ally

Regarding Juju Neto

As of October 15th, 2017, Juju Neto has ceased membership in the Velvet Kitsune trainee unit "BETA". Her final activity will be the audio drama "Deep in the Forest" episode 2 which will premiere on Youtube on October 21st at 8pm EST.

This may come as a surprise to those of you following BETA and the awareness of how fresh a unit it is. Though she was with us a few months, Juju had made great strides and rose at the opportunity to have the lead role in the audio drama.

As the manager, I was thoroughly impressed with her work but in the entertainment world, time management is of vital importance. In order for her to better focus on her own idol group and academics,  I thought it appropriate end the contract sooner rather than later.

As a result, the dates of the drama have slightly shifted to October 21st: Ep 2

October 28th: Ep 3

October 31st Ep 4

We hope you will watch her growth in Flusay Girls and Crystal Rose and wish her the best in her pursuit of a university degree.

Best,

Ally

Deep in the Forest: Postponed

Good morning!

I have decided to postpone the release of "Deep in the Forest". BETA is a still developing group and because I regularly received applications for members in the summer the roll was steadily changing. This group is very strong vocally and I thought it best to postpone the first original single so all members can be featured and instead focus on releasing covers. The original song will be released most likely in February or March. There are still activities planned for the month of October.

A little story...

Hello!

I know you guys are probably wondering why I released two singles so close together (less than a week apart). The short answer is I have been working on "Together Entwined" for roughly two months and "But me (...not you) for more than a year. The long answer is I've waited too long to start Velvet Kitsune up again waiting for members that I have decided to simply start as a soloist. I have decided to take on Velvet Kitsune as my stage name but you can still call me Ally. :3

Starting an idol group is something I have wanted to do for a while. In December 2015 and January 2016 I began experimenting with GarageBand and  produced my first track "Count Down~0". Later on June 26th 2016 I released [STAR]gazer and on the 28th INVASION both as off-vocal arrangements. They were meant to be coupled tracks and their lyrics were to follow the same theme. Here and there I made non-electronic tracks(some disco and rock) but I realized I had a sweet spot for electronic music and would gravitate towards the loops and instruments that produced that eerie sound.

The first audition for Velvet Kitsune hit a hitch when women at my school made the assumption I was attempting to be like a acapella group that existed at the school. I was even cyber bullied about it and called crazy for even trying and even told it would "crash and burn". This was disheartening and honestly I kept Velvet Kitsune mostly to myself and shared my dreams primarily with close friends I could trust but even then it wasn't always ideal. I was told straight out but two performers that I would never be a singer in Japan. This hurt much more because I had always been supportive to their dance projects at school and found it a bit shocking they could so easily tell someone their dreams of performing were not possible at all. No hard or difficult but simply not possible.

I resolved to be patient, I would be back in New York City in a matter of months and be around more open minded people. When I began my audition for members another, already established idol group began auditions as well. I was tempted to give up but pushed the date back and released a video about the audition and marketed more. After three tries I have officially "given-up" and realize if I want to be an idol I have to start solo and so I have. It is also harder for people to discount my efforts if there is proof of them.

This month has been essentially a year and a couple months in the making and I plan on releasing more music until I can have enough music for a totally original setlist and make my live debut in the winter. I will also be working on Japanese lyrics for a few of my upcoming releases. I hope you guys will like my new music and share it with your friends.

Keep an eye on the official Facebook page as new music will have no warning ⚠️

Best,

Ally
